Tether eyes investments in gold mining industry

Tether, the issuer of stablecoin USDT, is considering investing in the gold mining sector, Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to sources, Tether has already discussed potential deals with several counterparties. The company is looking to invest across the full production chain — from ore extraction to trade and financing firms that acquire deposits to earn royalties.

However, skepticism persists in the industry. One person told FT: “The company hardly has a strategy. It just likes gold.”

Tether also held talks with Terranova Resources, but those discussions fell through. The company has not issued any official comments at the time of writing.
