CrediX developers disappeared after a $4.5 million hacker attack

The team behind the DeFi platform CrediX, which operated on the Sonic blockchain, disappeared after a hack that resulted in the theft of approximately $4.5 million, according to CertiK experts.
The incident occurred on August 4, when an attacker gained access to the project’s wallet, issued unbacked tokens, and withdrew liquidity from the pools. The stolen assets were transferred from Sonic to Ethereum, distributed across several addresses, and partially laundered through the Tornado Cash mixer, Blockscope clarified.
Immediately after the attack, the developers announced that they had reached an agreement with the hacker to return the funds and compensate users for their losses within 24–48 hours. However, shortly thereafter, the CrediX website was shut down and its social media accounts were deleted.
The project was launched in July 2025, offering returns of up to 10,000% and positioning itself as a platform for connecting investors with fintech companies in developing countries.
Experts say the team’s disappearance after promising to return the money points to signs of an exit scam.
According to Global Ledger, hackers stole over $3 billion in 119 attacks in the first half of 2025, and the speed at which stolen funds are withdrawn remains one of the main problems for the industry.
