Metaplanet acquired 103 BTC and increased its portfolio to nearly 19,000 coins

Asia’s largest public holder of bitcoin, Japanese company Metaplanet, has announced a new purchase of 103 BTC worth 1.7bn yen (roughly $11.7m). The deal went for about 16.85 million yen ($113,491) per coin.
This brings the company’s total assets to 18,991 BTC, valued at 286.8 billion yen ($1.95 billion). The average purchase price of the portfolio is 15.05 million yen ($102,712) per BTC.
According to TradingView, at the time of writing, bitcoin is trading at $111,778 after a correction likely caused by a major sell-off by one of the “whales”.

Despite this, Metaplanet’s assets are in the unrealised gains zone at around $172.7 million.
According to the company’s filing, the returns on its bitcoin investments by quarter were as follows:
- july to September 2024 – 41.7%,
- october to December 2024 – 309.8%,
- january to March 2025 – 95.6 per cent,
- april to June 2025 – 129.4%,
- july to 25 August 2025 – 29.1%.
