Donald Trump Files $15 Billion Lawsuit Against The New York Times, Claiming Damage to His Crypto Project TRUMP

U.S. President Donald Trump filed a defamation lawsuit against The New York Times, several journalists, and the publisher Penguin Random House LLC. According to him, the publications and the book Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father’s Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success, released in September 2024, were aimed at “artificially undermining his business, personal, and political reputation.”
The prosecution insists that the materials were distributed “with malicious intent” and led to significant losses. The lawsuit notes that they created the impression that Trump’s fame was linked to the TV show The Apprentice and the support of its producers, and that his achievements were exaggerated.
As a result, Trump is seeking $15 billion in compensation, acknowledgment of defamation, and official apologies. Among the projects allegedly affected are Trump Media and the meme coin OFFICIAL TRUMP (TRUMP), launched in January 2025.
The New York Times called the lawsuit baseless:
“This lawsuit has no merit. It contains no legitimate legal arguments and, on the contrary, is an attempt to hinder independent reporting. The New York Times will not be deterred by intimidation tactics. We will continue to objectively examine the facts and uphold the right of journalists to ask questions on behalf of the American people, as guaranteed by the First Amendment.”
Trump himself commented on the filing of the lawsuit on Truth Social:
“I am receiving tremendous feedback on my lawsuit against The New York Times. The overwhelming sentiment and mood is ‘It’s about time!’ The case is filed in Florida! The radical left media is trying hard to destroy the USA. We will stop them at all levels!”
