El Salvador buys 21 BTC on Bitcoin Law anniversary

El Salvador has purchased 21 BTC to mark the fourth anniversary of its Bitcoin Law, President Nayib Bukele announced on X (formerly Twitter).

“Buying 21 BTC on Bitcoin Day,” he wrote.

With this purchase, the nation’s reserves now exceed 6,300 BTC, valued at more than $700 million, according to the National Bitcoin Office. In the past 30 days alone, holdings grew by 50 BTC.

As The Block noted, El Salvador officially adopted Bitcoin as legal tender in September 2021 and has consistently added to its reserves since then.

Journalists reported that the acquisition came a week after authorities redistributed BTC across 14 new addresses to mitigate potential risks linked to advances in quantum technologies.
